5 Tips for Toning Your Body with MMA Training

1. Building Your Muscles

There is no better training for toning muscles than what you get with martial arts, pure and simple. Mixing fitness with martial arts is even more strategic, and you WILL see results in a shorter span of time, as opposed to alternate fitness programs.
You may have been interested in martial arts all along, but you have hesitated with taking that first step towards achieving the strong, powerful and toned body via martial arts. You do not need to hesitate any longer; our martial arts classes thrive on targeting key areas of your body and are at a speed that are critiqued for adults, teens and younger kids.
Our instructors will help you to work on strengthening and toning the muscles in your waist, legs & arms…shaping your thighs & hips and give your back more definition…and work on flattening your abs.
2. Build Your Endurance Level
With the implementation of our mix of fitness with martial arts, you will have a substantial increase in endurance that covers many areas. The effects of heightened cardio/muscle endurance is just the beginning of your journey…you will find that you have a renewed sense of balance and an increase of speed, agility, strength and overall power.

3. Maintain a Healthy Diet
Your number-one priority when it comes to your diet is to stabilize your blood sugar levels (this will give you more energy for longer periods of time). You can achieve this by eating every 3 hours…keep to your regular mealtimes and snack on some nutrition in-between (your body will quickly learn that it does not have to store fat).
Protein intake should happen every time you eat anything, as protein is essential to your high-impact diet, as is vegetables and fruits for each meal (do not be tempted to omit any of these three major components). When it comes to carbs, you should only have them after an impactful workout (you need to “earn” them). Take in the roughage, and do not resort to any shakes or drinks…your body breaks down roughage more quickly and takes in all the nutrients.
4. Don’t Eat Too Close to Bed Time
Martial arts that are mixed up with alternate fitness maneuvers do require focus and to achieve that intense focus, you require in-depth amounts of rest & sleep. Ideally, you will ensure an ideal sleep each night by eliminating snacks and especially a full meal…3 – 4 hours before you lay down for the night.
If your stomach feels full, you will be restless, uncomfortable and it will show the next day when you are trying to execute your workout and you will lack in deeper focus. With martial arts in Vaughan, you will need that focus to maintain your pace within the class.
5. Stick with a Solid Routine
Anything in your life that you routinely and regularly do is something that comes second nature to you daily. Your prescribed routine must also become second nature, and you should ensure your workout can be done at the same time each day if possible, and carry it through to its completion.
A regular routine will help you in your ability to remain motivated and focused.
To make your transition into martial arts as smooth as possible, Takedown MMA and its instructors are offering you a FREE…30 DAY TRIAL…our goal is to help you to reach out and reach your set goals!
Your first “come and try” month is a big motivating factor…and that is how you are going to see that you can do this!

Shaping and toning your body is not all about diet and exercise, it is about your ability to assume control and execute what works for your specific body type.

5 Tips on How to Intricately and Strategically Work With Your Body Instead Of Against It:

1.Mastering the Correct Type of Control

The control you need can only be achieved through the learned technique and focus of mixing up fitness strategies with an intricate splash of complimenting martial arts. Mixed martial arts will give you that deep focus you need to carry through with alternate physical activities. This is why many people do not succeed with their fitness routines and workout rituals, as they have not yet learned that focus and strong execution of movement is how to shape and tone muscle efficiently.

2. Take Control NOW…The Free 30 Day Experience Will Get You Started

The power behind deep focus also leads very quickly to raising confidence levels. This is one of the high points of mixing proper fitness man-oeuvres with martial arts, this is the path that leads to success. Shaping and toning your body means even distribution of movements and actions, many exercises through other fitness rituals do not accomplish this.

With our free 30-day trial experience, you can step into the world of martial arts to begin toning your body AND your mind.(CLICK HERE)

3. Martial Arts IS For Everyone

When you launch your confidence into a high state through mixed martial arts, you are establishing an increase of confidence in every other aspect of your life. Everyone, including children, need to have that secure feeling of a higher confidence…this is a very important boost to your daily life.
Reworking your physique through fitness and martial arts in Vaughan could be considered the additional benefit that comes from learning discipline, controlled execution and strong focus.

4. Martial Arts Comes In Many Speeds

When you ponder over the movements of martial arts, do you become intimidated by the movements that occur so fast, that there is no way you could ever move your own body that quickly?
This does not have to be a concern for you. Martial arts that are mixed with alternating fitness movements can be executed at a speed in which you CAN execute them. Your age, size and body weight upon starting with Takedown MMA is how your own personal speed is taken into consideration and reset to fulfill your specific criteria.

5. Placing Real Value on Your Investment of Time

Your time is worth money, right? If you believe this is true, then you should be placing a value on the time that you spend working on your body and your mind. Enhancement of body and mind is an excellent goal and so is taking yourself further physically. Any and all progress that you make should carry a higher value to you. After all…the time that you invest does provide you with incredibly rewarding returns.

Takedown MMA is offering you a free 30-day trial experience so that you can take the first step into punching up a stronger and toned body, a flipped increase in a focused mind, and kicking your confidence to a higher level.

Here are 10 Tips for Losing Weight

One of the most effective methods to use for weight loss is MMA Conditioning boot camp. This type of training is ideal for working out the entire body including important cardiovascular work. In fact one of the reasons this is so effective is the combination of aerobic, resistance, flexibility, strength and coordination. Boot camp helps to build muscle while burning fat.
To get the most from your boot camp for weight loss, and other health and fitness benefits, here are some tips to keep in mind.

1. Make sure there is enough cardiovascular. The spikes in your heart rate during intense intervals of cardio work are what help you burn calories.

2. Bring the intensity. While our instructors at Takedown MMA and Fitness know how to offer intense boot camp sessions, it is up to you to step up and meet that intensity level.

3. Keep increasing. When you first start you will not use as much weight or be able to do as many pushups. Over time you have to challenge yourself to increase your limits in order to see results.

4. Set new goals. Your first goal will be to show up to boot camp for the first time. After that it can be easy to lose sight of making new goals along the way. Goals give you motivation and help you have a sense of accomplishment.

5. Track your weight loss. In order to feel good about your progress, keep track of your weight loss. However keep in mind that turning fat into muscle will not always result in dropping big numbers on the scale. Monitor your body and how your clothes fit, not just the scale.

6. Add your own challenges. Our instructors know how to seriously kick boot camp butt! This does not mean you should not also find ways to push yourself when possible. By adding even a little something to each boot camp session you are increasing your intensity levels.

7. Make the right choice. Any gym or trainer can offer a “boot camp” class, but none are like what we have at Takedown MMA and Fitness. Boot camp “like” or “in the style of” boot camp is not the same and you are not as likely to see real weight loss results.

8. Pat yourself on the back for your progress. Part of getting results from boot camp is pushing yourself and pushing hard. Don’t lose sight of how important it is to also congratulate yourself for a job well done.
9. Keep showing up. Even if you feel like you hit a plateau, the worst thing you can do is give up. Stick with it and you will see results.

10. Get started in the first place! Thinking about joining us for boot camp is a great start, but coming in will get you results.

Take advantage of our 30 day free trial to start. Taking the first step is the hard part; enjoying class and losing weight is easy after that.

BJJ Training Gi vs. No Gi

Part of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training is grappling. A topic that often comes up is gi training versus no gi training. If you are already familiar with BJJ and grappling, you may know what this is. However if you are new to BJJ training, this may sound confusing so here is a little clarification about the two.

  • To start with, the gi is the traditional two piece attire worn for BJJ, judo and certain other types of martial arts. It is lightweight and loose fitting and consists of pants and a jacket top that closes with just a cloth belt.

The tradition and foundation of BJJ is the gi. Training with the gi is very technical, and defense must be tight. Being able to use the gi for control in a dominant position makes escaping from this position very challenging. Many feel that the gi helps to level the playing field between competitors instead of it being based solely on speed, strength and power.

For anyone who wants to train in order to compete outside of the training arena, it is a good idea to do some gi training. Competition is with gi and so some of the training to prepare for this should be as well. Even competitions that are no gi are often dominated with winners who train with gi. Breaking it down to train gi and no gi is a good option too.

On the other hand, no gi training helps students learn how to not rely on using the gi to take down or dominate their competitor. By doing this then when in a situation with the gi, a student can use either approach to his or her advantage. No gi training helps to better develop defense and breaking out of holds as well as transition speed.

One of the main questions that comes up about the gi debate is how this helps or hinders training for the basics of self-defense in real life situations. Some feel that gi training is a disadvantage because you are not likely to be attacked by someone on the street while wearing a gi. However because the person would most likely have some type of jacket or clothing loose enough to grab, this could still be a useful training approach.

The bottom line is that any type of BJJ training you get can be useful. The advantage of BJJ is that you are learning techniques to use when you are at your most vulnerable position – on the ground. The majority of street fights or attacks end up on the ground. Knowing how to recover from and gain control over your opponent is crucial to winning, and possibly even surviving.

At Takedown MMA and Fitness our instructors have more than 50 years of combined experience. Not to mention the low student to teacher ratio means you get the individual attention you deserve. Take advantage of our 30 day free trial.

Building Confidence… Martial Arts vs. Team Sports

I recently had some spare time and I was doing some random Google searches on various topics when I decided to search for some success stories on the topic of how Martial Arts has helped to increase confidence in individuals. During this search, I came across what I believe is one of the most asinine comments that I have ever read. In answer to the question of whether or not Martial Arts helps to increase ones confidence, a particular contributor commented that all sports help to increase confidence and Martial Arts just uses this as a marketing gimmick. The one point on which I agree with this contributor is that participation in sports can help to build confidence in those who participate. As children get better and better at a sport, they become more confident in their abilities to perform at that particular sport, and perhaps to take on other challenges as they become aware of their talent and athleticism. However, this is not true for all individuals.

Click Here For Your FREE Confidence Ebook!

As we all know, some people are blessed with physical strength, coordination and an abundance of athletic ability while others have strengths that lie somewhere other than that which requires physical ability. The children to whom athletics come natural are those who will benefit with increased confidence from playing team sports. However, the children who are not gifted with athletic ability are more likely to realize a loss of confidence as they continue to pursue their sport. No matter how much effort they put into the game they are playing, most of the time they are failing. Furthermore, when they fail in team sports situations, they feel as if they are letting down their whole team. Consider the situation of a little league baseball game in which the team that is losing has its last at bat with the bases loaded and two outs, and a base hit would win the game for them. One of the less talented children comes up to bat, with the whole team counting on him. Most likely, this child will not get the needed base hit, especially with all that pressure on him. If he gets the hit, it would be a great boost for his confidence, but more likely he will not get the base hit and in his mind, he has let down his team. When a person fails consistently, it is impossible to gain confidence.

In the Martial Arts, there is nobody to let down except oneself as it is an endeavor in individual progress. The only way for a student to fail is if they quit. Furthermore, the Martial Arts already have a confidence building system that is inherent in its programs. Think about it… the programs are structured with short and long term goals that students set and consistently achieve through hard work. For instance, a common long term goal for any martial arts practitioner is to one day reach the level of Black Belt. Prior to reaching the goal of Black Belt, they must reach their shorter term goals of advancing to the numerous colored belt ranks leading up to Black Belt. Also, in most children’s Martial Arts programs, students must earn a certain amount of stripes on their belts before they can advance to the next rank. Therefore, there is always a short term goal (their next stripe) that is well within reach. With consistent attendance in class, it will not take a long period of time for students to earn their stripes and they will not get discouraged. Before they know it, they have done the work and earned all of the stripes and they are being promoted to the next rank. This goes on all the way up to Black Belt.

So what do you think happens as these children continue to set goals and consistently achieve them? You guessed it… they build confidence! How could they not build confidence in themselves as they continue to set goals, work hard and achieve those goals? Like I stated above, Martial Arts programs already have a confidence building system inherent in their structure. Team sports programs do not have this type of goal setting structure built into them. Team sports will help to build confidence in those children who tend to excel in athletics, because these children will continue to succeed in their sport, which obviously will boost their confidence. However, there are many children who will see very little success in sports and they will experience the opposite effect… a loss of confidence. The Martial Arts do not discriminate… with a good instructor any child can build confidence in a Martial Arts program.

Ever wonder which will get you in better shape.

MMA Boot Camp vs The Regular Fitness Gym

coredevel

One of the best ways to sum up MMA boot camp vs a regular fitness gym is that hopefully gyms have started to get you prepared for what MMA boot camp has in store for you. Don’t let that intimidate you or scare you off. Plenty of our students at Takedown MMA had never even been to a gym before.

Point is MMA boot camp is so much more intense than your average fitness gym experience. This also means the results will be more amazing than you can even imagine. When in doubt, take a look at the build of your average MMA fighter. Even if you only advance to part of where they are, you will be a lot further along than if you stuck true to your tired old gym routine.

What Makes the Difference?

If you have spent any time at the gym, you probably realize how easy it is to get bored or even burned out. Even people who are dedicated to staying fit admit that their number one obstacle is getting motivated to do the same boring routine, day after day. MMA boot camp is like nothing you have experienced before.

This high intensity, results driven approach to fitness training doesn’t ever get dull. In fact, you’ll soon find yourself looking forward to your boot camp instead of dreading another boring session of bicep curls at the gym. Not to mention, boot camp trains muscles and parts of your body you’d probably never get around to training by lifting weights at a regular fitness gym.

MMA boot camp is more than just strength training and some of what you’ll get from this intense workout includes, but is not limited to:

  • Increased Power
  • Muscular Endurance
  • Improved Agility
  • Intense Speed
  • Cardiovascular Endurance
  • Better Balance
  • Plus so much more!

You get all the benefits of hitting the regular gym plus plenty more you’d never be able to get at your regular fitness gym. Get toned, buff, lean and strong without gaining bulk or lack of agility that comes from strictly weight training.

The best part is how quickly you can begin to see and feel results. While it may take a couple of weeks to adapt to this new style of training, much of it depends on whether you work out already or have never even set foot inside a gym before.

Either way, this class is perfect for you. Reach even those hard to whip into shape areas of your body such as your abs, hips, back and thighs. That’s why at Takedown MMA & Fitness we offer our students a 30-day free trial try us out today!

If you have tried and tried for years to losing weight without much success, you are not alone. There are millions of people all over the world who are constantly battling their weight, and trying every diet and exercise program that comes out, only to see few, if any results.

Did you know that there are really just two steps to losing weight, and be able to keep it off for life? These two steps are following a healthy diet, and getting plenty of exercise. Now, both of these things may seem difficult for many, especially the exercise part, because exercise is so boring. Not if you are taking mixed martial arts training at Takedown MMA and Fitness in Woodbridge, Ontario.

Step # 1 – Eating Right

Most people love to eat junk food, but for many of us, we are eating far too much junk food, and not enough of the healthy foods that our bodies need. When you are taking MMA training, which includes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, you will not only learn how to fight, you will also be taught about a healthy diet, and which foods you should be eating to get the nutrients you need to be healthy and be able to handle your training without huffing and puffing all the time.

You will learn the benefits of high protein foods, as well as which protein and other dietary supplements are healthy to use, and which ones to avoid. Your trainers are well-versed when it comes to proper nutrition, and they will be more than happy to help you create a diet plan that will work for you, providing you with the nutrients you need, and foods that you will actually enjoy eating.

Get you FREE “How To Eat Clean Kit” By Clicking Here

Step # 2 – Exercising

Very few people actually like to exercise, they only do it because they have to. This doesn’t have to be the case. You just need to find a form of exercise that you can enjoy doing. Mixed martial arts training, including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, is a great way to get in and stay in shape, and you will have loads of fun doing it.

Now, you may not enjoy the actual strength training exercises, but once you get into the actual sparring and fighting, you will be burning calories, working every muscle group, and it won’t even seem like you are exercising at all, because you are not going to be the least bit bored.

So many people spend way too much money on exercise equipment, diet plans, and gimmicks in hopes that they will lose weight and get into shape. When you are eating right, and staying active, including taking mma training, you will find that you are able to get yourself into great shape, and you will never find yourself bored with traditional exercises again.

How do you know what Martial arts is the best for your child?

Activities such as Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing and all other Martial Arts are a great way for kids to achieve fitness and focus. Some parents might believe they also promote violence, however that’s a myth. The martial arts literally help develop self-discipline and socialization skills. In fact, many parents whose kids have ADD (attention deficit disorder) or ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) report excellent success with these types of programs simply because self-control and focus are exactly the skills underdeveloped in ADHD kids.

Get Your FREE Focus Kit Ebook Click Here!

A regular hour-long class starts out and ends with a bow to the teacher. After the warm up, students drill the art’s certain techniques, which might include kicks, punches and blocks. Each requires concentration and strict attention.

Progression is usually marked by the belt system, that takes the student from a white belt through a variety of colors until black. Examining for each new level, usually every three months, is a good exercise in setting and achieving goals.

Here’s a brief guide to help you to select the ideal training for your child this is just a run down:

Karate

A system of self-development using kicks and punches. Its quick, sharp actions involve snapping movements of the joints, which means that kids need to warm up carefully.

Tae Kwon Do

A form of karate developed as a military art, which has become one of the more popular martial arts. It uses kicking and punching movements to energize the body, and breathing and meditation techniques to provide focus.

Boxing

Teaching how to punch movement and block. Most school don’t have a grading system for students to see their progression.

Judo

Taught as a competitive sport, judo teaches kids how to throw a partner using balance and leverage and helps them learn self-control and respect for their opponent. This martial arts was developed through Jiu Jitsu.

Jiu jitsu

A competitive form of self-defense that teaches students to use their opponent’s weight and strength against him. Having a partner fosters cooperation. Good for none athletic kids. The mother system to Judo.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

A new martial art made popular by the UFC, is a mixed of kickboxing, wrestling and jiu jitsu. This puts together a well round martial art and teaches your child how to defend themselves and any situation.

Aikido

Uses many of the same movements as jujitsu but is gentler and noncompetitive. It, too, is an excellent discipline for teaching children how to work with a partner.

Kung Fu

A rigorous and physical form of karate that involves more fluid movements than its Japanese cousin, making it easier on joints. It’s fast-paced, so kids get an aerobic workout.

For the most part you should always take advantage of any FREE offers to try any Martial Arts program. This way you see first hand how the classes are operated. Here we offer a FREE 30 Day Trial because we know your gonna love our program click here to register online.

8 steps to staying motivated in your martial arts training

motivated MMA

Everyone starts learning martial arts with an objective in mind. Whether it is to obtain a black belt, obtain another black belt, get in shape, be better than their friends, or start a career in fighting, we all have had our reasons. There comes a time in each martial artist’s path where they can feel disheartened or unmotivated. Long periods of time between advancing in belt rank, back to back fight losses, trouble finding opponents, or simply not getting the results they imagined, can all discourage athletes from training. Here are some tips that will get you out of the rough patch and keep you motivated to reaching your goal:

1.Make friends at your level

Having friends in your MMA classes will help with your own personal motivation. They share your interest in MMA training and probably share the goal that you have. They are invaluable to your progress, especially people you can relate to who are at the same level in their training as you. There is nothing like some friendly competition to motivate a person. These friends will advance with you, and with or without knowing it, they will push, strengthen, and motivate you, and be there to help. More than likely, at the same stage where you are beginning to feel unmotivated, they have felt or are feeling the same way. Having a group of friends in your MMA classes to hold each other accountable for attendance or advancing is an inspiring tool for MMA training. Even if your friends are at other MMA gyms nearby, in Toronto or Vaughan, it will be beneficial. You will also get the added benefit of being the same pillar of motivation to them.

2.Make friends that are more advanced than you

Is there a pro fighter or more advanced student whom you admire at your MMA school? Or even close by, in Toronto or Vaughan? Or maybe one that you feel most comfortable around? Make friends with this person; they person can become your mentor. Ask a more advanced student for help on a technique you are having trouble with, ask what they would do to counterattack a certain move, or any question you might have. They will be flattered and you will open a channel to a friendship or mentor relationship. Having an advanced student at your MMA school that you can talk to gives you someone to emulate, ask questions of, and look to for inspiration when you yourself are feeling unmotivated. Remember, everyone began at the same point in their MMA training; as a beginner. They have been there and know how it feels, and can help you along the journey.

3.Create a goal calendar

Every goal is comprised of smaller steps that happen along the way. If your main goal in your MMA training is to earn a black belt, become a pro, or get in shape, break down the steps that it will take to get there. Start with the larger steps, such as “Earn blue belt” or “earn brown belt,” then think of the steps in between those belts, such as mastering certain techniques. This list will seem long and cumbersome at first, but once the pieces are broken down into small, short-term goals, you can add them to the calendar.

Once you break down those steps, break them down into weekly or daily goals and to-do lists, and put them on a calendar. Create a timeline for yourself to reach your actual, long-term goal. Having a small task each week will show you that you are progressing and reveal your achievements, when they are sometimes hard to see because the main goal itself is so far away.

4.Videotape yourself

Countless martial artists wish they had some sort of video of themselves when they first began. Their first MMA classes, first tournament, or something where they could compare their skills (or lack of) from that day to the present day. Ask a friend or classmate to take a video while you are in MMA training, sparring, or at a tournament. A month later, take another video of yourself doing the same activity. Being able to see your progression, which is often overlooked if you are not progressing in rank at the same time, will keep you motivated.

5.Attend tournaments or fights

Whether you are at competition level yet or not, have no interest in competing or are a seasoned fighter, attending a tournament or fight event is a great learning and motivating experience. Watching crowds of other martial artists compete is an inspiring sight, and watching your own division will teach you things you can’t learn from MMA training alone. If possible, attend a tournament where your classmates are competing. This will inspire you to train harder, and you will feel the difference when you go back to your MMA school the following Monday.

6.Attend seminars

One reason martial arts students become unmotivated is because of the redundancy of MMA classes. Practicing the same techniques over and over can make anyone feel like they aren’t making any progress. There are always seminars nearby, in Toronto or Vaughan, of various martial arts, or perhaps a weapon or other special type of training. This will break the redundant routine and give you a breath of fresh air. It will also remind you that you have barely scratched the surface of learning in your MMA training. Seminars bring together students from other gyms of all levels and backgrounds, which also creates a great environment for inspiration.

7.Skip a week of training

“Quit training when I feel unmotivated?” This sounds ridiculous, but it often works. Most students, in the beginning, can’t go a day without MMA training. They want more than unlimited training and can’t get enough of it. But, when you hit a rough patch or begin to feel unmotivated, you miss a day or two of your MMA classes and don’t feel compelled to return. You begin to take your MMA school for granted. When you force yourself to skip an entire week, or two, anyone who loves the martial arts will agree, you will be dying to get back into the gym! “You don’t know what you got til it’s gone” is very true, even with MMA training.

If none of the above techniques get you motivated again, this video will:
