- Finding a good martial arts instructor for your child. This is a big part of your searching. Some school may lay out qualifications for their teachers but other don’t. So look at former experience the instructor has. Also if the instructor looks out of shape you may not what to go to train there.
- Get to know each martial art (Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Taekwondo, and Kickboxing,) and learn what they have to offer by trying a few classes. As an example Judo and jiu jitsu involves throws, locks and being pinned on the ground. Karate and kickboxing involves striking. All improve physical strength and confidence, so it depends on the child.
- Do your research. Make a list of schools in your area and starting checking them out. Does the school train their own instructors or do they bring in other instructors. Who is the instructor for that specific class. Making sure that the instructor is the right fit for your child.
- See how the instructor handles the class. Talk to the head instructor. You can learn a lot from sitting in on a couple of classes. Does the control the class? , Does the instructor keep his students attention for the entire class? , Is the instructor involved in the class? , Are the students enjoying the class and instructor? , A good instructor will engage his students and make them want to return. A good instructor truly cares about the advancement of their students.
- Take a look at the facility your child will be training in. A good martial arts training studio should be clean. Do the student help clean the school? If so you know this is a school that cares about the development of the whole person.
Ultimately the easiest way to view the school is by trying a free trial. But you most first understand what martial art you’re doing before going in. Every art is deferent, you must choose and art that your child is comfortable doing.
